Have you ever stopped and thought about what your life would look like if you were even more successful than you are now? How would your day begin? Where would your office be? What would your office look like? How much time would you spend working? What would you be doing when you are not working? Most business people do not have a clear picture of this. They continuously strive to achieve success, yet they never know when they have achieved it.
To help you visualize your success, first it is important to define what success means to you. To do this, it is important to tune into your dreams, your ultimate destiny. Many people define success in monetary terms only, but if you look at many financially successful people, they are still working to make more money. What stops them from being fulfilled with what they have? The answer to this lies in the correlation of their success to their core values. I've asked many clients "what values do you hold strongly in your life?" There is always a pause because they have to think about the answer - an obvious lack of connection to their values.
To connect your success to your values, try this: Make a list of about five to ten values you have. Think about which of these values you hold highest in your life. How does this value relate to your definition of success? If this is not obvious, look deeper into your definition of success for the answer. For example: if your definition of success is to make a salary of $300,000 per year from your business, ask yourself "What will this income bring to me?" Your initial response may be all the tangible luxuries such as a big house, nice car and great vacations. Again, look deeper into the situation - "What makes having these things so important to me?" Keeping delving deeper and deeper until you tune into the values. They are there!
Now that you have a deeper understanding of what success means to you, you are ready to tie this definition to your vision. Review the questions at the beginning of this article and really map out your vision of success. Close your eyes and step into this vision to get a sense of how it feels. Sense how you take in the happiness of being successful and the euphoria of the accomplishments you've achieved.
How do you make this vision a reality?
1. List five actions you can implement today to move towards achieving your success. Incorporate these actions into your daily work plan.
2. List five actions that need to be implemented within six to twelve months.
3. Determine what must be accomplished to make the actions in Step # 2 take place.
4. Determine what do you have to do to make yourself accountable to taking these actions?
