Small Business Week was born in British Columbia in 1979 and, over time, has grown into a national celebration held annually in the 3rd week of October. Its 25th anniversary in 2004 marked years of success and growth!
During SOHO’s launch, Moe Somani, President/CEO realized that Small Business Week was launched but never caught fire with the small business community. Seeing the need to create awareness of and celebrate the successes and growth of small and medium size businesses in marketplace, Somani took action. In 1997, SOHO launched its Small Business Week initiative - The Annual SOHO | SME Business Conference & Expo. “We had to do something to communicate the importance of small and medium size business in Canada,” says Moe Somani, President/CEO of SOHO
